The bidding agent allows you to set the maximum amount you are willing to bid for a lot. It then automatically places bids for you in the applicable bidding increments.
The bidding agent will never bid more than the maximum amount you have entered.
How do I activate the bidding agent?
- Log in to your Surplex account.
- Open the lot you want to bid on.
- Enter your maximum bid in the bidding field or select one of the suggested amounts.
- Review the total amount and accept the applicable terms and conditions.
- Confirm your maximum bid.
Your maximum bid must be higher than the current minimum bid shown on the lot page.
What happens after I set my maximum bid?
If another customer places a bid, the bidding agent will automatically increase your bid by the next required bidding increment.
This continues until:
- You remain the highest bidder;
- Another bidder enters a higher maximum bid; or
- Your maximum amount is reached.
The full amount of your maximum bid is not placed immediately. The bidding agent only bids as much as necessary to keep you in the highest position.
What are the advantages of the bidding agent?
You do not have to follow the auction continuously or place every bid manually. The bidding agent responds automatically when another bid is received, even when you are not currently on the website.
Why was I outbid immediately?
If you are outbid immediately after placing a bid, another bidder has probably already entered an equal or higher maximum bid.
To become the highest bidder, you must enter a maximum bid that is at least one bidding increment higher.
What happens if two bidders enter the same maximum bid?
If two bidders enter the same maximum amount, the bidder who entered that amount first will normally remain the highest bidder.
Is my maximum bid binding?
Yes. Once confirmed, your maximum bid is binding up to the amount you entered.
Before confirming, always review:
- Your maximum bid
- The buyer’s premium
- Any mandatory additional costs
- The applicable VAT
- The auction conditions
